Advice to an Old Man Regarding his Instrument

Standard

They say you’re too old
to learn the cello.

Your fingers are twisted
with memory,

your muscles trained
the wrong way,

you’re neither nimble
nor quick.

But what you bring
lies beyond their fray  –

beyond their years
and vigor.

What you bring
is the desire to play-

plus two shares of patience
and wisdom.
